| Maryann Hastings teaches Biology I & II, Anatomy and physiology at the local high school. She is 35 with no children of her own and is unmarried. Maryann is generally easy going, but she dislikes academic laziness. Her social interactions with co-workers and the like are usually pretty average. Maryann does tend to push her students into doing their very best and expects a lot out of those who are likely to get the 'easy ride' through life because she believes it's not an excuse to slack off. Maryann devotes a great deal of time to her work, but she has her own hobbies for when she is not working as well. Maryann is always willing to listen and tries to help as much as she can with those who need it.
| Friends
Maryann makes friends rather easily in general. Her willingness to listen and provide the appropriate amount of sympathy often draws people to her. However, there are very few people she lets into her life close enough to know the things that are in her heart. Maryann is loyal to her friends and will not turn down chances to be involved in social activities with them outside of work. Maryann often meets a few of them out for coffee every now and then.
| Enemies:
As easy as it is to make friends, Maryann is not perfect, and she had made her share of enemies in her lifetime. Some students will hate her because of how she pushes them to do better than their best. Others will hate her simply because she has no tolerance for academic laziness. There are some people outside of work that would dislike her simply because she stands out and isn't their 'perfect' idea of what a teacher should be outside of the classroom. Her fashion tastes aren't always seen as something that an adult of her age should be into. It's not uncommon for Maryann to hear people saying she needs to get out of that 'phase' already.
| Lovers:
Lovers are something that Maryann typically does not seek out. In most cases it's a subject she tends to not really put much thought into. Not because it's not something she wants, after all she does have dreams, but mostly because it's complicated. Maryann is typically not the sort of person who has 'flings', but when she falls for someone she falls hard.
| The List
Phoenix Boulstridge -- Student -- Not Fond Of | Walking Trouble
Eloise Darmody -- Student -- Good Student| Hard worker | Recommendation letter written
Connor Peters -- Student -- Wasted Potential | Might be holding back due to work not being challenging enough.
Calliope Gordon -- Student -- Dedicated Student | Doesn't seem too bad just yet | Fishy activity
Atticus Rosario -- Student -- Great student | Very intelligent | Loves the subject | needs guidance, but will likely succeed in life.
Indiana Olsen -- Student -- Least favorite | Big mouth | Doesn't like authority | Unwilling to cooperate | Not likely to stay out of trouble (Make sure to check her work for plagiarism)

Phoenix is not a fan of authority figures, teachers included. He also doesn't typically try very hard in school - he's going to fail anyways, so what's the point? So, I don't think these two would be very fond of each other.

It's likely that if he slacks off and gives trouble that she would definitely consider him a pain in the rear *nods* She'd probably try to push at him to do better, but if he refused to do so she would not likely be fond of him at all.

Eloise wants to be a doctor one day, and her favorite classes are math and sciences. She is a very, very hard worker and takes school seriously I imagine that she and Maryann would get along very well because of this, and she would certainly ask Maryann for a letter of recommendation for college. I think that Maryann would be one of her favorite teachers, and she would really look forward to Maryann's class!

That sounds wonderful! Given that she works hard and applies herself Maryann would have no objections to writing her a recommendation. Maryann would likely look forward to seeing her in class as well

Connor is super academically lazy so I can see Maryann not liking him very much. She may respect the fact he does attempt to do things for extra credit though. Maybe she sees wasted potential in him.

She would definitely not like the fact that he was so lazy, but seeing him trying to do the extra credit rather than giving up completely would give her hope for him. She would likely try to push him to do better and try to figure out why he didn't care about the classwork yet did the extra credit when the classwork was always the easier option.

callie&&maryann
so this is all really dependent on where Maryann's relationships with the teachers stand. Callie's intelligent and does very well in school, as well she's sort of a centerpiece in the drama department (has been in every production the school has done since her freshman year). So there's no reason why these two shouldn't be amicable. Callie has a natural respect for authority behaviors, and is friends with plenty of the teachers, so if these two were ever in contact Callie would have showered her with questions: wanting know Maryann was doing, if she likes teaching, etc.
But it gets complicated, because Callie's getting a little too close to Silas. Larry and I sort of have an on-and-off thing with them planned, but we wondering if Maryann could be thrown into the mix in order to complicate things. Knowing your secret, there's reasons why it would be salient for both Silas and Maryann to try to focus their attentions elsewhere. Should that happen, Callie wouldn't exactly look at Maryann in a negative light, but she certainly would be rather emotional and jealous. She'd pointedly avoid the woman, and maybe some weird tension could be between the two. Things could grow complicated from there, but it's completely dependent on if you're up for this or if it even interests you. XD SO WE'LL SEE. <3 [/size]

atticus and maryann//
Atticus spends the majority of his free time hauled away in the science wing at school. I think it's only natural that Atticus would know Maryann quite well despite being a somewhat new student and a reticent one at that. The sciences, being his subject of choice, are clearly his passion and he seems to take a particularly strong interest in biotechnology and horticulture. As a student Atticus is obedient and capable, quiet in the classroom, rarely asks questions, and has a definite sense of modesty as far as his own intelligence goes.
As far as their relationship goes, I think Maryann could be a very good influence on Atticus. He's not particularly close with his foster parents(though he thinks them to be very kind people) and doesn't really have anyone to turn to in terms of guidance when it comes to social situations and growing up in general. I think Maryann could possibly fill this role nicely due to her sympathetic nature. What do you think?

maryann and indy
Ooh, this isn't going to be pretty. Here's why! i. Indy hates authority. Something about people being in charge of her just really irks her. ii. Indy isn't exactly lazy, but she definitely isn't a science person. She isn't one to give up when the goings get tough, but if she gets too frustrated, she'll do something she'd rather do (for example, take pictures or write things). This (in order to further the strain of the relationship) would probably be perceived as laziness. iii. Her mom's family has a lot of money. Maryann will probably think that Indy wants a "free ride". iv. She hates asking for help, and probably would rather accept a C than ask for help and get a B. v. Indy is pretty outspoken. She doesn't really have a filter and is pretty inclined to say what she's thinking. This will probably include many instances of, "This is stupid." "I can just google this crap." "What's the point of this class?" and if Maryann is more confrontational than not, she'll know that the teacher is unmarried and be all, "You know, there's probably a reason why you aren't married." Like I said, no filter. She doesn't really understand that bringing personal subjects into an argument or heated debate is a no-no. Also, Indy is pretty persuasive (she loves writing persuasive essays and organizing her thoughts into strong contentions on a moment's notice) and will probably just be super blunt. She won't realize that it's rude, mostly because she'll be stating factual information that she's observed, but the way she presents it will probably be rude.
As I said, these two will probably highly dislike one another.

Calliope & Maryann
I'm not particularly sure where her relationships with teacher's stand. In generally she's professional toward them, but more so casual than she would be toward students--if that makes sense. Since calliope is a centerpiece in the drama department she would expect a great deal out of her academically. As for her questioning, Maryann has no problem with answering questions about herself, so long as it doesn't pertain to her romantic life. When addressed about that she would likely change the subject or mention that's not an appropriate subject to discuss with a student. She would of course tell calliope that she loves to teach and loves it when students are enthusiastic about learning.
I wouldn't mind maryann being thrown into the mix somehow, you can send me a pm with the details on that if you'd like, it'd be easier for me to discuss it and maryann's secret. I do agree that it would give them reason to be. Weird tension is always great though. I am always up fr plot twists !
Atticus & Maryann
Maryann would likely get along very well with atticus. Proably even try to guide him through situations growing up. Though at first she would show some resistance to helping him with personal matters she would give in due to that sympathetic nature especially if his difficulties were constant. His love for the subject would make her happy and the fact that he was modest about how intelligent he is would be something she would notice as well.
Indy & Maryann
Oh dear oh dear. Maryann would not be fond of her at all. I imagine that she and maryann would be quite aware of each other and it is likely indy would constantly be in trouble with Maryann. Probably even asked to stand in the hall or sent to the office depending on how disruptive her behavior got. Maryann is pretty zero tolerance when it comes to people disrupting her classes with nonsense.
